Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are a quick and easy lunch in many households throughout America. Many people have warm childhood memories with their families while eating PB and J sandwiches.
Using nut butters in your smoothies is an excellent way to create a healthy tasty treat or even a quick and easy meal.
Before you bring out your peanut butter and blender... I just want to let you know of a couple concerns I have about peanut butter.
#1 Allergic Reactions
Make sure that you or the other people drinking the peanut butter smoothies are not allergic to peanuts. If you are old enough to read this, you should know if you are allergic or not by now. But you need to make sure others are not allergic also.
I love making nut smoothies for others, but I really have to remember and make sure that I ask about allergies before handing them a smoothie.
#2 Fungus and Molds
Aflatoxin is a mycotoxin created by molds in your foods, mainly corn and peanuts. It grows in foods stored for a long period of time in warm, wet weather. Aflatoxin has been shown to be a carcinogen.
Aflatoxin isn’t beneficial to your body if you are prone to get fungal infections.
Ways to remove aflatoxins from your diet:
#1 – Use other raw nut butters, like almond or sunflower, instead of peanut butter. I personally love almond butter in my smoothies. You can substitute any nut butter in all of the below peanut butter smoothie recipes.
If you still want that peanut butter flavor, you can make sure that you buy good quality peanut butter that uses fresh peanuts.
#2 – Store your food properly. Refrigerate or freeze, if you are not eating the foods in question within a month.
#3 – Buy from people and companies that you trust. Make sure that they are handling and storing your food properly. Buy the food as fresh as possible.
