Chocolate Protein Smoothie Recipe

Blend your own chocolate protein smoothie recipe at home!

Okay... Okay... For most of us, the days of cracking eggs into your blender are gone. Eggs are a great way to get protein, but I prefer my eggs cooked. For those of you that can handle drinking raw eggs, good for you!

I would like to open your eyes to an excellent vegan protein alternative for your chocolate smoothie recipes. Beans! Yes, beans.

Many vegans and vegetarians use beans for their main protein source. You could combine them with nuts and really create a delicious and nutritious snack or meal.

Due to the fiber, beans are extremely filling. They can be your alley against the mid-morning craving monster at work that are hiding in those vending machines. This in turn really gives you control of what goes inside your month.

Don’t be afraid of tossing in a handful of beans into your smoothie. Hey, Asians have been making desserts mainly filled with red beans for years.

Black Bean Brownies!

This isn't a protein smoothie recipe, but I couldn't hold off on this recipe idea. :)

An interesting and yet yummy way to add more beans into your diet is to make brownies with black beans. Buy an organic brownie mix and a can of black beans. Rinse the canned black beans and add just enough water to cover the beans that are in the can. Pour the water and beans into a food processor/blender and blend until smooth. Add the pureed beans to the brownie mix instead of the eggs and oil. Bake according to instructions.

This is so yummy! I make it for the neighborhood kids and Bible studies. There are always people asking for seconds!

How To Cook Beans

You can cook your own beans. I would understand if you are in a rush and use canned beans. The canned version sometimes tastes like metallic in the bean smoothies. Yuck!

Two great benefits of cooking your own beans are saving your money and your nose. :)

#1 – It is much cheaper to buy dried beans over canned. The totals don’t even come close. Save your money for more important things in your life.

#2 – Cooking allows you to cook the beans the way you want/need too. Beans should be cooked after soaking in water for 12 hours. Soaking beans assist break down oligosaccharides, the indigestible sugars that cause gas. This process can also remove tannins, phytic acid and tryspin inhibitors.

Trust me... Soaking the beans will really save your nose and others’ noses around you.

To cook beans, start the previous evening. Place them in water overnight. When you are ready to cook the beans, rinse them off well and place on the stove with fresh water. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to a simmer until the beans are soft.

Once the beans are cooled off, rinse them off again and refrigerate what you can use within a week. The rest of the beans can be frozen in individual containers for a convenient protein smoothie recipe.
