Question: I see stevia in several smoothie recipes. I can't find it in a usual UK supermarket? What is stevia?
Answer: Stevia is a plant. It's leaves are super sweet. It can be up to 300 times sweeter than sugar! So people make extracts(liquid and powder) with the leaves. And since it's pretty much just leaves, there are no calories. Plus you don't have the side effects that the artificial sweeteners give.
I buy mine at iherb.com. I prefer NuNaturals brand. Their stevia doesn't have an after flavor like many of the other brands do. Here is where I buy mine from: NuNaturals Stevia They also ship internationally.
If you do use iHerb.com, make sure to use the coupon code: LIV 127 and get $5 off your purchase.
If you don't want to get stevia, try any other natural sweetener, like: honey, agave nectar, xylitol, maple syrup. Use about 1 tablespoon of the above natural sweeteners to 1/2 teaspoon of stevia.
I hope this helps!
Happy Blending!
